4 I loved poetry slam night stars!!
Holy cow!! I slammed through this in one afternoon!!(see my pun haha) My emotions went up then down then up again..there were tears, and laughing during this book. This was my first try at a Colleen Hoover book and I feel like she may have knocked it out of the park. The first couple chapters I thought this was going to be the usual angsty teen in love book, but it was so much more than that. These young teens in this book are just trying to navigate their way through life. This picture describes my feelings in this book!
This story centers around Lake and Will but you learn a lot about the people close to them. It’s hard to write this without any spoilers because so much happens…Lake and her family are moving to Michigan from Texas. She obviously is not happy about this. She was just about to enter her senior year of high school and graduate. I love the dynamic between her and her younger brother. It’s so sweet how she acts like she is annoyed by him but really isn’t. Then the bombshells start coming and poor Lake doesn’t know which way to go. Feeling lost she turns to her new friends. You would think this whole thing was all about the slam poetry but it’s not there is a lot in between. The poetry parts make you feel so much they are so touching and full of knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed Lake’s BFF Eddie she was hilarious and wonderfully upbeat even though she has a super crappy life so far. I loved how Eddie seemed wise beyond her years most of the time. I only gave it 4 stars for the ending. It was a very predictable ending. After all the ups and downs it was kind of a letdown 😦 Other than that I highly recommend!!
