3.5 loved the banter stars!
I feel this is one of those authors you either love or you hate. I have seen mixed reviews for all of her books. I was unsure going into this but it was my buddy read for the month.
I really enjoyed the banter in this book. I can’t say I was emotionally invested into either character but the banter was wonderful. It read as if it was a bunch of friends who had been together forever joking back and forth. The nicknames that Jack and Grace come up with for each other are so cute and nice. I enjoyed their texting back and forth in the beginning between the two.
Grace has come back to Los Angeles to restart her career. She was here once before and didn’t make it. Grace went back home to lick her wounds.. while back home she re-finds herself. I enjoy that Grace’s character evolved but I don’t understand why it had to be a “I was big but worked out and now am small” thing. Good for her I’m all for everyone getting healthy but it doesn’t have to be one of the main points int he book. It was brought up more than once. Another thing brought up more than once was the age difference… ugh.. those just felt to convenient. Grace’s relationship with her best friend Holly seemed so cute and real. The ridiculous way they talked to each other only happens when you have been friends forever. I enjoyed how she put Jack off for so long. Like he’s just being nice not into me factor.
Jack’s character seems so much older than he is in the book. He also falls right into this witty banter which is really nice. Again the nicknames are hilarious how she doesn’t call him his actual name often. I enjoyed that she didn’t know the movie he was going to be in. I kind of wish Grace would’ve never found out how big his movie is going to be. Half of the time Jack seems more adult then Grace. When she finally gets her big break and he backs her up was such a wonderful thing.
The ending of the book was kind of abrupt. I would’ve liked a little more but of course it is only the first book. So I guess we will see how it goes…
