5 robin hood reversed stars!!
This novel was amazing, I actually requested it on whim and am so glad I did. The cover was what first drew my eye I love a tough female heroine. Does this cover not look like she could take on anyone or anything?? Apparently this is a second book in a series, no worries I didn’t read the first and while there are references to the first book I think this book can be read without it.
If you read my robin hood reference above then you will have guessed that the lovely young lady on the front cover is like robin hood. Her name is Lady Juliana or the cloaked bandit. She has survived an uprising caused by her uncle, during the uprising her father was killed. He asks Bulldog to take Juliana into his care until she reaches adulthood and protect her like she was his own. The peasants start rumors that Juliana has died of disease so that her evil uncle doesn’t hunt her down. You see she is actual heir to the land that he has forcibly taken. Juliana has survived for many years hiding in the woods gathering what she can for the peasants that have run away from her evil uncle’s rule. Until one day while robbing a nobleman she peaks his interest a little to much. So much so that he comes looking for her and finds her…
Oh Collin be still my beating heart. He was such a wonderful hero, always trying to do the right thing. He tries to help Lady Juliana before he even knows who she is. They knew each other when they were younger. When circumstances put Collin in charge of Juliana’s well being he takes that job very seriously. He is actually part of the noblest knight clan. He was not raised completely by his father and was sent to become a noblest knight. He has just come home to take over the estate from his deceased father. I can’t even explain how sweet Collin is, for being a knight I thought he would be more tough and rough.
I love the witty banter that happens between Juliana and Collin. They jab at each other often but in a friendly manner. All of the character depth that was in this novel was amazing. I felt for all the characters that were mentioned.. even the maids and servants. Not a character was left untouched by Jody Hedlund’s wonderful writing. This story has an adventure, a love story, faith, and fun. It’s everything you could want in a novel. Both main characters were strong and giving the best types of characters.
I will be going out and buying the first in the series since it has such great reviews also!! Thank you NetGalley and Zondervan for giving me a copy for my honest review.
