2 not my cup of tea stars!
I am in the minority with my rating on this book. While a lot of people enjoyed this book it just wasn’t for me. I have read another book written by Amie Kaufman and really enjoyed it. So I thought I would give this one a go… it did not go..anywhere. This story is about a young “princess” and a military man who crash land on an abandoned planet. I couldn’t connect to the world building or character building.
Lilac is the main female character. She has been brought up to expect everything handed to her. While throughout the book you see some character growth in her it wasn’t enough for me. She lacked conviction she would have back bone but it was about the silliest things. Lilac did do some really important things but it felt to little to late for me. Why couldn’t she evolve sooner.. you are stranded on a planet, you should at least act like it instead of a princess. I just could not connect with this character.
Tarver on the other hand seemed genuine. He was brought up humble and decided to join the military after his brother is killed in action. He meets Lilac but doesn’t recognize her on the space ship. The poor guy asks her out and the ice princess shuts him down. Then the ship crashes and they are the only 2 alive. You would think she would be thankful to have him nearby. (I know I would) but she comes off just as frozen as before. He risks life and limb for her all the time… she does the same every once in while.
This just was not my cup of tea. I’m not saying don’t read the book, I just did not like it. Everyone’s opinion is different this book actually has a 3.95 star review on goodreads which is pretty good. I would’ve liked to have seen way more character growth and world building. I felt like there was this huge buildup that fell flat. I love the cover though it’s gorgeous!
