4 enjoying the daughter of death stars!!
This book was definitely a slow burning book. In the beginning I was just waiting and waiting for something exciting to happen. If you stick with it the intrigue is really worth it. The network of paths that need to be taken to get you to the end result are really well thought out. Some of things that happened in this book really touched my heart. Some things I was really not expecting…. some of the deaths 😦
Ismae has left a horrible situation hopefully for a better one. She is sent to convent of St. Mortain to learn how to be a dutiful daughter to the saint. I loved how Ismae just threw herself into the work of St. Mortain. The people St. Mortain has marked are the ones she is supposed to kill. (these marks are super intersting) She took everything the sisters said as the word of him without questioning it. However when she gets sent to the High Court of Brittany she finds herself doubting some of the things she was taught. She uses what the sisters have taught her to protect the duchess and her family. Ismae is unsure on whom exactly to trust… should she trust the convent? Or can she trust Duval??
Duval is a wonderful character. While it is a very slow burn romance I adored that. I don’t like insta-love kind of books. I enjoyed watching him try to figure out what makes Ismae tick. Duval definitely adores his family and is trying to do right by them. Well maybe except his mother… she was… evil. I liked how he was a true gentleman who woman adore and men want to be friends with. Duval’s friends were probably some of my favorite characters. Especially Beast, hopefully he comes back in later books… Duval’s character is one not likely to be forgotten.
I loved the thought process that went into this book. While it was a slow start in the beginning it was definitely worth it in the end!
