Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J. Maas

5 plot twisting stars!!

crown of midnight

Oh my… oh my… there will probably be spoilers in this review.  So if you haven’t read the first or second book in the Throne of Glass series please don’t read my review.

The plot twists are crazy in this book… I have been team Chaol since the first book so the crap that happens between him and Celaena is crazy. In the beginning of the book they are all lovey dovey but trying not to let anyone know.  Of course that doesn’t work because everyone can see it!! I’m pretty sure everyone could see that both Chaol and Dorian liked her in the first book.

Celaena seems to crack more in this book you get to see her blood lust side a lot more.  There was so much information in this book that I couldn’t believe how short it was. She starts to figure out that the king has in his possession some magic “keys”.. She needs to find the rest of them before the king finds them all.  Of course she and Chaol are a couple however after a major event it is let out that he kept something from her.  Which in turn probably lead to Nehemia’s death? So then she snaps and almost kills Chaol and everyone else around, then she is put back into the dungeon.

Besides the love triangle that is not a triangle in this book?  There is so much random magic and information.  Spoiler alert! Dorian has magic??? WTH he has random powers, he can use his mind to freeze Celaena’s hand, then he heats the door with his body? Then we find out Celaena not only has magic but she is a fae!!! WHAT? However her magic is dormant in the “regular” realm.. There are so many questions and not answers.  Then at the end when Dorian figures out who she really is, that was rough.

Okay and the witch at the fair was super scary!! The whole time anyone talked to her I was like “why?? walk away as fast as you can!!”

There is so much unresolved and I realize it’s going to be a six book series but I just can’t see where it is going at this point…

“A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend.”

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.
