5 that was unexpected stars!!
Wow, just wow! I’m not even sure where to begin except to forewarn you that since this is the 3rd book in a series this review will likely carry spoilers for the other two books.
All of my favorite characters are back in this book. Vin is there and she is married to Elend and they are looking for the atium still. However in the Lord Ruler’s hidden caves they are finding more than they bargained for. There seems to be enough food and supplies to fit a whole village in some of these caverns. I loved the growth of both Elend and Vin. They are no longer young and naive they are knowledgeable and trust each other wholeheartedly. I loved how their relationship grew with each book, from infatuated, to unsure love, until the end when they relied on each other without a doubt. Oh and the part where they finally dance at the ball and he opens a book while they are dancing! That was priceless…
Getting to this point where they think that Vin is the Hero of Ages and she will save them all is amazing. The thought that Brandon Sanderson put into all three books was great. How each book reveals a tiny little bit at a time. That plot twist and the end was great though I almost threw my book in a good way! The twists with how the mists were really working for Elend’s team the whole time instead of against them! If they would’ve only thought of that earlier!!!
Spook may be my overall favorite character even though in the first two books he is more of shadow than a person. He is always there for them and does what they need. He never doubts Vin, Kelsier, or any other allomancers in their crew. He only hopes to be loved by the group and to help. In the end though he might be one of the strongest characters. They all go through a lot but the transformation in his character in this book is phenomenal. He not only evolves into a proven leader, but he does so with gusto. When he finally realizes what is wrong with him he almost kills himself to take the evil out of him.
I would highly suggest this series to anyone, Brandon Sanderson has such a way with world building that you get immersed amazingly fast in the world and characters.
