Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes

4 the plot thickens stars!!

Basically my whole review could be “Hey you like this character… BOOM they are dead!!!!”  I’m pretty sure that’s what Morgan Rhodes thinks when she writes these. (maybe she even cackles a little) On a side note bad people are finally dying so I can do a little fist pump.  I’m not sure I have anything unspoilerly to say. … So you should probably leave because the rest will spoil you for this book or any books before it! Thanks for stopping by!

Okay let’s start with Magnus… I still don’t like him.  While he had tons of revelations in this book I still don’t ship him with anyone.   Maybe once he settles down and starts fighting against his father I will like him?  I still cannot believe he slept with Amara in this book like WTH. I was so pissed at him and so hurt for Cleo who I don’t even like that much!  Obviously Amara is a bitch… ugh.. Magnus why???

Cleo… not really a fan either but at least she also made some progress in this book.  I feel it took a life or death situation for her to overcome her spoiled bratness.  I still love how she tried to really love Lucia and she tried to be nice to Magnus but of course he just rebuffed her in the beginning. Then of course Lucia tries to kill her.  She really only has one ally at the moment and that is Nick.

Nick is by far my favorite character and then Asher wormed his way into my heart.  Nick is so loyal to Cleo and the ones he loves.  He might be a bit daft at times but his heart is in a good place. He offers to take Cleo away and she tells him no….then Asher kisses him and he starts to doubt everything. Asher was a nice twist I’m really sorry he’s gone . I was hoping some magic seeds would pop up somewhere. Hopefully Nick gets to deliver Amara’s death blow later.

Jonas probably had the most growth in this book. I don’t know why, since he still makes bone head decisions. His alliance to to Cleo is still strong and I really enjoy that.  I love characters who stick with the person from the get go.  Even though in the beginning he planned to kill her, he learned very quickly that she didn’t deserve that.

In GATHERING DARKNESS, book three of the New York Times bestselling Falling Kingdoms series, the stakes have never been higher as three teams push forward on a race to find the Kindred, the four elemental crystals possessing ancient all-powerful magic, first:

Prince Magnus has just witnessed torture, death, and miracles during the bloody confrontation that decimated the rebel forces. Now he must choose between family and justice as his father, the cruel King Gaius, sets out to conquer all of Mytica. All Gaius needs now are the Kindred – the four elemental crystals that give godlike powers to their owner. But the King of Blood is not the only one hunting for this ancient, storied magic…

• THE KRAESHIANS join the hunt. Ashur and Amara, the royal siblings from the wealthy kingdom across the Silver Sea, charm and manipulate their way to the Kindred, proving to be more ruthless than perhaps even the King of Blood himself.

• THE REBELS forge ahead. Princess Cleo and vengeful Jonas lead them, slaying with sweetness, skill, and a secret that can control Lucia’s overpowering magic – all so they can use the Kindred to win back their fallen kingdoms.

• THE WATCHERS follow Melenia out of the Sanctuary. They ally in the flesh with King Gaius, who vows to use Lucia’s powers to unveil the Kindred.

The only certainty in the dark times is that whoever finds the magic first will control the fate of Mytica… but fate can be fickle when magic is involved.
