4 fantastic duo-logy stars!!
Well that ending .. wow. Uhm didn’t see that coming. I’m getting ahead of myself though. There will be spoilers below do to this being the second book in a duo logy. I will say if you want to enjoy a book where the character goes through real changes, and a boy who actually is the good guy but doesn’t act bad then this is for you!
This book is following Ivy after she has been cast out of the fence for planning to kill Bishop. I loved how the author didn’t make everything fall into place for Ivy after leaving the fence. She struggled with nature and wild things that were out there, especially since she has no survival skills. However her struggle is needed for Ivy’s character to grow. She basically has to separate her two lives, one from outside the fence and one from inside the fence. Basically during Bishop times and after Bishop times. Her growth in this book is huge, she goes from sort of fighting for what she believes in to learning how to stand up for herself. I have to say when she was mad at Bishop I kind of felt his confusion but after that was cleared up I was like oh right got it.
Bishop… I have about a bazillion things I could say about Bishop. Finally a hero worthy of hero status in a teen novel. He is not a mis-understood ASS. He is unbelievably sweet and kind to Ivy. He takes his time with her always so patient. Bishop never pressures her into anything she doesn’t want to do. He leaves the safety of the fence to find her. Even thought when he finds her she keeps him at arms length he continues to love her and be patient with her. I have to say Bishop outside of the fence was liked more from me than the Bishop that resided inside the fence. Inside the fence he was a bit more stressed about being the presidents son and outside the fence he was just Bishop in love with Ivy.
I have to say well done to Amy Engel finally a story that didn’t need to be drawn out for 8 or so books. That told the story and told it so well it always left you wanting for more. Both books combined might be 550 pages or so but they pack a punch for sure!

Ivy Westfall is beyond the fence and she is alone. Abandoned by her family and separated from Bishop Lattimer, Ivy must find a way to survive on her own in a land filled with countless dangers, both human and natural. She has traded a more civilized type of cruelty–forced marriages and murder plots–for the bare-knuckled brutality required to survive outside Westfall’s borders.
But there is hope beyond the fence, as well. And when Bishop reappears in Ivy’s life, she must decide if returning to Westfall to take a final stand for what she believes is right is worth losing everything she’s fought for.
