They call him father, liberator, warlord, Reaper. But he feels a boy as he falls toward the pale blue planet, his armor red, his army vast, his heart heavy. It is the tenth year of war and the thirty-second of his life.
A decade ago, Darrow was the hero of the revolution he believed would break the chains of the Society. But the Rising has shattered everything: Instead of peace and freedom, it has brought endless war. Now he must risk everything he has fought for on one last desperate mission. Darrow still believes he can save everyone, but can he save himself?
And throughout the worlds, other destinies entwine with Darrow’s to change his fate forever:
A young Red girl flees tragedy in her refugee camp and achieves for herself a new life she could never have imagined.
An ex-soldier broken by grief is forced to steal the most valuable thing in the galaxy—or pay with his life.
And Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile to the sovereign, wanders the stars with his mentor, Cassius, haunted by the loss of the world that Darrow transformed, and dreaming of what will rise from its ashes.
Red Rising was the story of the end of one universe, and Iron Goldis the story of the creation of a new one. Witness the beginning of a stunning new saga of tragedy and triumph from masterly New York Times bestselling author Pierce Brown.

My thoughts…
I am so excited in this book we finally get a POV from a strong female character. She is so inwardly strong and doesn’t even realize it yet. Lyria is a character we can all root for, the underdog we all need. She has come from humble beginnings just like Darrow did and is fighting for every breath, every day… nothing is a given for her. I loved following her POV. I actually really like her character and am excited to see how she develops over the next couple books.
Another thing I really enjoyed from this new book is a lot of new characters!! I realize we have to throw in new characters to keep it fresh and inviting. However I am really enjoying how these new characters are being molded by Pierce Browns capable hands. We get so many new multiple POV’s from the new characters on how the war has affected them 10 years after. I don’t want to spoil the fun on who they are or where they came from, or what roles they have to play so I’ll just leave that there.
Okay now onto the maybe only part I disliked or maybe it stuck out as the only part above all that I didn’t like. Darrow… what happened to him?? I don’t want to give too much away, however he is not a character I like anymore in this book. I hope this is something that Pierce Brown planned, and I hope it changes. If it doesn’t change in the next book I’m unsure if I can go on with this series, it is that much of a turn off for me.
About the author…
Hello. I’m Pierce Brown, the author of the Red Rising Saga, a NYT #1 bestseller. The newest entry, IRON GOLD debuts January 15, 2018.
I figured I’d write you myself than have corporate copy pasted below my totally natural author photo.
In my books you’ll find stories of men and women finding their inner strength when all seems lost. You’ll also find me exploring themes of power–what it means, why people seek it, and how they hold onto it–love, violence, and hope.
I read a bit as a kid. Count of Monte Cristo, Dune, Lord of the Flies, Star Wars (expanded universe), GRRM, Antigone, Hyperion, and Harry Potter were some of my favorites. If you liked those books, maybe just maybe we’re on the same page.
