The story is supposed to be over.

Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after…

So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?

What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light…

That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West.

They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place…

With Wayward Son, Rainbow Rowell has written a book for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And a book for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first. It’s another helping of sour cherry scones with an absolutely decadent amount of butter.

Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over – but your life has just begun

My Review…

giphy-1

I don’t want to say I was disappointed, but I was… not in a huge way but in a slightly befuddled why did it go the way it did way.  Simon, Baz, and Penelope come back in this book to show what happens after Carry On.  Everyone always wants to know what happens after the hero saves the world right?   I expected some turmoil and angst and of course the blurb says a road trip.  I was not expecting the book to go from fast paced to absolutely nothing, then to have a plot line but not really follow it?    A lot of people did not like the alternating POV’s, however I kind of liked them.  I missed having time with our three main characters so getting to be with them again was nice, sometimes though I’m not sure what their thought process was. I felt there could’ve been a little more communication between characters. I still really enjoyed their magic system and how fun the world is.   I try not to read hyped books right away, but I didn’t want to be spoiled for this one, so I read it fast.  Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed being back with these characters, and having this magic system back.  I was excited to have some new characters added to the mix.  I just couldn’t seem to get over the flow of the book.

About the Author…

Rainbow RowellRainbow Rowell writes books. Sometimes she writes about adults (ATTACHMENTS and LANDLINE). Sometimes she writes about teenagers (ELEANOR & PARK and FANGIRL). But she always writes about people who talk a lot. And people who feel like they’re screwing up. And people who fall in love.

When she’s not writing, Rainbow is reading comic books, planning Disney World trips and arguing about things that don’t really matter in the big scheme of things.

She lives in Nebraska with her husband and two sons.
