4 in it for all the goats stars!!
No one would say Keelie Lockhart isn’t determined. Taking on the role of both mom and dad to her two young kids, she’s managing life the best she can. Saddled with a century-old dilapidated farmhouse she can’t afford, a bevy of goats, two dogs, and a geriatric donkey, the last thing she has time for is a man—even if that man is a knight whose shining armor comes in the form of worn-in jeans and work boots.
Controlled, methodical, and focused—Asa Hollingsworth takes charge of everything in life. Working close to home after years away, he finally has the time to focus on his kids. Little does he know, a chance meeting with a petite, strawberry-blonde stranded on the side of the road, would intertwine their lives in a way he’d never want to untangle.
But when school bullies turn into something much worse, Asa starts to dig around. He never dreams the troubles lurking in the hallways of the local high school would shake his family to its core. With drug dealers lurking, bullets flying, and threats coming from every angle, Asa must do everything he can to protect the ones he loves.
Because in the end, there’s nothing more precious than the gift of life.
Warning: Oh, I’m sorry, that’s a fake ID. If you’re not eighteen, consider yourself bounced and walk away from my books. I’ll gladly welcome you back when you become a legit adult. That is, unless you’re my parents or my children. If so, walk away and don’t come back. You don’t need to know what’s in my head.
If there was one word for Asa Hollingsworth it would be patient. He is so unbelievably patient with his own kids, his ex wife, his coworkers, Keelie, and her kids. I couldn’t even stand it at some points I almost wanted him to explode with some sort of rage or something. There he was just a rock in all of the hard times, it was amazing. I loved him as the main hero, I have been waiting for this book since the first book. He seems to know what everyone needs before they even know they need it. Except his daughter is having a rough time and that’s where Keelie comes into the picture. I adored that he knew he couldn’t just date her he had to date her kids too, it was all a packaged deal.
Keelie is an amazing, kickass single mom who knows she can do it all if she just had a couple more hours in the day. I adored that she just kept taking in more goats and dogs, or whatever the kids wanted. She is determined to do everything on her own and is making it super hard for Asa to get even a little bit in her bubble. However when things start to get sticky and they get in closer quarters lines definitely get crossed. Keelie would protect everyone with everything she’s got even if they aren’t her kids and you get to see that time and time again in this book. I think that is what draws her and Asa together the most its a kindred spirit thing, even though they go about it differently.
I of course loved all the eccentric animals in this book, and the bringing back of all the old characters with the new. We always seem to get a little glimpse in the future epilogue in the end of these books that I really enjoy. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
I feel my body slump. “Asa, please. I can’t accept your barrel of wine.”
“Baby,” he whispers against my lips. “The barrel doesn’t come full of wine. You get it empty. Now move your pretty little ass so I can put these bottles in the fridge for you.”
This is ridiculous. I roll my eyes. “Oh, well, I didn’t know the barrel came empty. That makes it all better.”
He chuckels and I move, because I could stand here all day and argue, but I have a feeling it wouldn’t make a bit of difference. I leave him to rearrange juice boxes and go straight to the island to search for my trusty wine bottle opener. I don’t even look, but grab the first bottle I come into contact with in the box. Asa exits the pantry as I’m pouring myself a glass. I have a feeling I’ll need it since he’s barely been here fifteen minutes and I’m pretty sure he’s just given me a gift worth a lot of money.
