A Bridge Between US, by K.K. Allen

5 Wild ones can’t be tamed stars!!!

I had always known he wasn’t mine to keep, but that didn’t change the way I loved him—quietly, gently, and from afar. ⁣

As the seasons changed, the corn stalks grew strong, and the grapevines flourished with hope. But none of it mattered, not when the soil at our feet bound us in a century-old rivalry. We’d never even had a chance. ⁣

They said life flashed before your eyes on the way to death, but on that night, after my final scream burst from my throat and my world started to fade to black, I only thought of him. Of his sweet chocolate eyes, his desperately cautious stare, and his silence that carried more weight than gold. ⁣

I should have died that night. Instead, I crossed the moonlit bridge and never returned. ⁣

I let rivalry win. If only that had been enough to keep us all safe. If only we didn’t have a bridge between us

My Review…

Holy moly slow burn deliciousness …. that was fantastic. I loved the chemistry, growing up together, family drama, secret romance, horrible background stories, mysterious danger, etc. This had everything you could possibly hope for and more.

Camila is everything you want in a female protagonist from the beginning on, she’s feisty and headstrong. She leads with her heart and loves every minute of life. I do see throughout the book where she does get beat down a little bit at a time but keeps bouncing back. Her optimism seems to help everyone around her and does lead to her nickname with Ridge. I liked her evolution through the book and how while she could see the light in every situation she did get tougher skin later in life.

Ridge was the outcast the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks or so everyone but Camila thought. I liked how she didn’t judge him at all and how he couldn’t help but let her in. While Ridge was a man of few words his words always meant something and even though sometimes they weren’t very kind in this book there was a story behind them. I couldn’t handle how kind he was to everyone even though he had so many reasons to lash out.

“Living in the moment is not about perfection, my son. Life is meant to be messy and challenging. It is our privilege to free our thoughts, sort through the chaos, and take what survives to bring us closer to our destiny. Our path is never ending. Imperfections will challenge us, break us, and in the end, make us whole.”
