A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers, #2)

Find the heir, win the crown.

The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.

Win the crown, save the kingdom.

Rumored to be the heir, Grey has been on the run since he destroyed Lilith. He has no desire to challenge Rhen–until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother’s violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?

The heart-pounding, compulsively readable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.

In the sequel to New York Times bestselling A Curse So Dark and Lonely, Brigid Kemmerer returns to the world of Emberfall in a lush fantasy where friends become foes and love blooms in the darkest of places.

My Review…

I adored a Curse so Dark and Lonely when it came out and it wasn’t even for Rhen it was more for Harper and Grey.  So the fact that the second book A Heart so Fierce and Broken was to be Grey’s story peaked my interest right away.  This story didn’t go according to plan for me and it had some obvious YA pitfalls in the plot, but who doesn’t love some obvious tropes.

In the beginning Grey is hiding out and “not” making new friends.  I think that is one of his best qualities, he doesn’t realize how much he cares about the people around him.  He’s supposed to be cold and detached but he actually cares for quite a few people.  It’s sad really that he can’t trust Rhen enough to help  him out. His strength and wit are tested throughout this book.  He’s quite a deadly force that shouldn’t be messed with but only uses it when absolutely necessary and I think that’s what I like best about him.

Lia Maria I was expecting to be a little bit more like Harper I guess, and while she was strong and brave, she was a different kind of princess.  She was raised that there would only be one heir to the throne, and it didn’t have to be the oldest in her family.  They are taught self defense and how to take care of oneself.  I think her calmness and wanting to make peace is what attracted Grey.  Her sister is more a destructive person and would make him turn away more.

I can’t say enough how much I love all the side characters in this book.  New and old it doesn’t matter the are all amazing.  We of course only got a tiny little snippet of Rhen and Harper in this book we are going to get more in the next book I assume?  I would love more POV’s in the next book.
