The angel of death locked me in one of his castle rooms, surrounded by books and delicious food. Not bad, right? Except for the loneliness, and the lust-fueled dreams that torment me every night. Specifically, dreams of Samael. And did I mention a psychotic ghost keeps trying to kill me? Because no one else believes me about that.
Now, I’m desperate to get out of the castle and hunt down the murderous Free Men who led to my imprisonment. Samael wants to destroy them, too. We have the same goal, but don’t trust each other. When distrust shifts into passion, it only makes things more complicated.
Despite what we feel, we’re destined to be enemies. If we can’t rewrite our fates, we will lose each other forever–and one of us will end up dead.
My Review…
I was really expecting that second book slump with this book, at least a little bit. However this book just killed me, it made me fall in love with the characters all over again and then bam it was over.
The world building was perfect as it was in the first book but with added perspective because Lila was telling more stories about the world and village. I felt so much pain for her in this book because she was so torn between wanting to help Samael and to get revenge on the Free Men. Also she has the whole deal with someone seeming to haunt her and attack her. Her attraction and love for Samael is definitely at the forefront of her mind in this book though. She never wants to hurt and him, but he’s just being so stubborn.
Samael on the other hand is trying not to bend to his other side, his darker side, the side that will bring out the reaper. He is not someone to be messed with and Lila betrayed him in book one, and he just can’t forgive her. However deep down he loves her, and just can’t admit it. Samael is a warrior first and foremost and doesn’t understand there is a different way to lead people, Lila is trying to teach him a different way. While he is a warrior we get these moments of clarity towards the end that he may perhaps be a little bit soft. Picking acorns, and paying attention to Lila’s needs.
All in all this second book was amazing I’m dying for the third book and I almost wish I would’ve waited until all three were out to read them back to back to back.
About the Author…

C. N. Crawford is not one person but two. We write our novels collaboratively, passing our laptops back and forth to edit each other’s words.
Christine (C) has a lifelong interest in New England folklore – with a particular fondness for creepy old cemeteries. Nick (N) spent his childhood reading fantasy and science fiction which may partly explain why he is also a scientist.

I will follow your advice and wait till all three volumes are available. There are times I wished this endless tide of series will come to an end and that the literary world returns to the standalone format for a novel.
