Life’s a witch, and then you fly.

Romy Larson

The tequila made me do it—throw caution to the wind to take a DNA test. Now I know why “who’s your daddy” is a dangerous question. Dad’s a witch, with a whole magical family I knew nothing about.

Discovering I have magic isn’t the only shock (though it explains a lot). There’s a familiar face among the noisy, joyful Candler clan. A fostered son named Trace—the only other time in my play-it-safe life I did something crazy. A night of madcap fun and sizzling kisses.

Trace Holcomb

For years, I’ve been trying in vain to find a spell to bring my family back after they died. I’ve given up on magic. What good is it if I can’t do the one thing I want so much?

I mistook Romy for my blind date, and it was the best mistake I ever made. Or maybe it’s the worst. When the other shoe—more like the hammer—drops, I learn she’s part of the Candler family, who opened their big hearts to me when my family died.

Now it’s up to me to run Romy through a crash course in remedial magic before she loses it forever. That’s the last thing I want to do. As the smoke clears from her first disastrous spells, something else becomes clearer. Our attraction wasn’t a fluke. And she could be the key to making my impossible dream come true…

My Review….

This is the perfect comfy read for fall or Halloween romance, I really liked this cover. Both main characters have a ton of baggage to go through in this book but both have a ton of character growth throughout the book. This is also the first time I am reading this author and I have to say it’s an amazing introduction. All of the bestfriends and family members in this book made it even more amazing. There was such a sense of kinship amongst everyone, someone always has someone else to lean on.

Romy as a character was a little bit wild and reserved at the same time. Which I think deep down is kind of mostly everyone. She’s stuck in life and not really sure where to go, then gives in on a whim one night and meets Trace, that’s where everything just starts to unravel. Romy’s best friends are the best friends everyone wants. I liked that Romy was willing to step out of her comfort zone at some points but not willing to compromise who she was. She was very kind and willing to stand up for the small person.

Trace is a very family oriented character, he does everything for his family. He is denying his witchy background and his family supports him in that. The full first half of the book is Trace trying to put his feelings aside for Romy and put his family first and that just makes him so much more endearing to me. I loved that he always sticks up for his two younger sisters and basically fits in with everyone. This guy is unbelievably sweet, and so kind.

I wish we could’ve learned a little more about the magic system in this book, yes I know its a paranormal romance so it’s maybe to be more about the romance but if there are more to be set in this series could we have more about the magic? Either way I will be reading more from this author for sure!

Thank you to Kelly Jamieson for a copy in lieu of my honest review.

  1. I haven’t read this one yet (wasn’t really planning on since it’s paranormal), but I love this author’s hockey romances. I would recommend them to you if you enjoyed her writing here.
